If you have a problem with your gas boiler, you shouldn’t try to fix it yourself. Boilers are complicated and even dangerous, So don’t wait to get it checked out. Our team is prepared to handle a wide range of gas boiler problems:
- No hot water or heated air – this can be because of a broken pump or valve, or a busted thermostat. We can frequently fix these quickly. Unfortunately, this could also be the result of a blocked or leaky flue, which is a more substantial repair job.
- Water leaks – These can do serious damage to your home if they aren’t addressed quickly!
- Pilot light is out – usually this is due to a broken thermocouple. Fortunately, this is a repair that usually doesn’t take long to make
- Boiler is noisy – Sometimes a boiler will begin to make noises similar to when a tea kettle is about to boil. This is because of the build-up of water deposits, and is especially common if you have hard water. We can flush your system to get rid of the noise. Regular maintenance should prevent this. Squeaks, rattles, and rumbling can suggest mechanical breakdowns, airflow restrictions, or a clogged burner.
- Short cycling – a properly functioning boiler can cycle on and eight or more times an hour, but if you find that it’s cutting on and off in one- or two-minute cycles, that’s short cycling, which most likely indicates a clogged line, improper air flow, or a bad thermostat.
- System won’t turn off – a boiler that runs continuously may just be the result of a bad thermostat setting. But it can also mean there’s a problem with the limit switch, which will require a professional to repair.
- Strong gas smell – a strong, persistent gas smell can mean a significant gas leak, which is a serious threat to you and your family’s safety. This needs to be dealt with immediately: open doors and windows, call 911, and evacuate. We can come in to make repairs once the gas clears.
We also offer regular maintenance service. Our trained professionals can check out your boilers, make sure all the parts are in good working order and all the valves, vents, and pipes are clear of obstructions. Regular maintenance will improve efficiency and head off breakdowns before they happen. To set up an appointment, call J. Griffin Heating and Plumbing at (781) 521-2188.
