If you have a clogged toilet, you probably just want to fix it quickly. But, if you don’t have a plunger, you may be wondering how you’re going to do that. There are actually a number of ways to do this, and we will describe a few of these in this article.
Dish Soap and Hot Water
This is an excellent way to unclog the toilet if you’re worried about getting dirty. You don’t even need to get really close to the toilet. Just get about a half cup of dish detergent and pour it into the toilet. Then, let it sit for about half an hour. Next, get about 2 cups of moderately hot water and pour it into the toilet. After pouring the water in, flush the toilet and see if it drains. If not, you could try one of the other methods we have listed here.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
This is another very easy way to unclog your toilet. You just need to pour a few things into the toilet. So, gather together a half cup of baking soda and a half cup of vinegar. Pour the baking soda into the toilet, and then add the vinegar. Wait around 15 to 20 minutes before pouring a pot of hot water into the toilet. This should cause the toilet to drain. Then, flush the toilet to make sure it works.
Coat Hanger
Using a coat hanger is a very effective way to unclog your toilet. You’ll need to get a cloth and a wire coat hanger. Then, in order to use the hanger to unclog your toilet, you need to completely straighten the hanger, except for the hook.
Next, take the cloth and wrap it around the hook on the hanger. Doing this will keep the metal hook from scratching your toilet. After this, push the hanger into the toilet while moving it around until you clear the obstruction. Then, flush the toilet to make sure you’ve cleared the obstruction.
Drain Cleaner
This method is quite likely to be the least effective and can often be harmful to the environment, so we would recommend saving it as your last resort. Also, if you don’t think the clog can be softened, just skip this option and try another method, or call a plumber.
However, to get started trying this method, just take a bottle of drain cleaner and pour it into your drain. Often, this will be anywhere from half a bottle to the whole bottle, but check the instructions on the bottle to make sure you are using the correct amount. The chemicals will begin to dissolve many materials, hopefully allowing the clog to slide down the drain when you flush your toilet.
Conclusion
Just because you don’t have a plunger does not mean you have to wait to get your toilet unclogged. There are actually numerous ways to do this, and these are some of the best. So, if you have a clog, instead of reaching for your phone to call a plumber or making a trip to the store, try a few of these techniques. You might be surprised how effective they can be.
