It can get pretty cold here in New England. You want your furnace running smoothly so you can stay warm and comfy during those cold nights. J. Griffin Heating and Plumbing has 30 years of experience in Eastern Massachusetts. We have an excellent reputation with our customers, who made us “Best of Home Advisor” for the last two years. Trust us to help you keep your furnace running smoothly and your house nice and toasty.
Our staff is fully certified by the Utility Workers Union of America, OSHA safety, and we are certified Navien Service Specialists. Our service vans are fully stocked with a wide range of parts for all makes and models of furnaces, so if your furnace needs news parts there’s a good chance we’ll have them on the spot. Our staff will take the time to investigate and then explain the problem to you, so you can make informed choices and have the peace of mind that comes with knowing your furnace was fixed right.
Here are just a few things to look out for
- Strange Noises – Is it more of a groan or a squeal? A groaning sound usually means the bearings in the motor are worn out. A squeal means there’s likely to be an air leak
- Fuel Bills Increase – if your fuel bills go up without a good explanation (like a cold spell) that means your furnace is using more energy. It’s time for an inspection to see if your furnace needs to be repaired or replaced
- Uneven Heating – Is one room way colder or hotter than the rest? You might need to have your heat vents adjusted to get a more even circulation of air. This is called “rezoning” and it’s a job that is best done by a trained professional.
- Dirty air filters – these can block up air in the heat exchange, causing the furnace to shut down. Regular maintenance can prevent this from happening.
- Persistent gas smell – this is a sign of a gas leak, which is an emergency situation. Open up doors and windows to vent built-up gas, call 911, and evacuate. We can come in and fix the leak once the gas has cleared away.
- Griffin also offers annual furnace check ups and maintenance. Our trained crew will make sure your furnace is ready for the cold season. Regular maintenance means your furnace is operating at peak efficiency, which save you money on fuel bills. It also heads off breakdowns, improves air quality, and increases the lifespan of your furnace.
An average furnace should last 20 years. If yours is close to being ready for replacement, we can help you find a new model that fits your home, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you are thinking about switching from an oil-based heating system to a natural gas-based heating system, we have plenty of experience with oil-to-gas conversions. We’ll be happy to work with you to make sure the conversion works for you, and make the switch as smooth as possible.
