Is-it-Time-for-a-Water-Heater-Replacement

The last thing you want is to have to start a frozen Eastern Massachusetts with a cold shower. Therefore, you should always keep abreast of the condition of your water heater. If it begins to leak, damage to your home could occur as a result. A leak may also significantly raise your utility bills. Let J. Griffin Heating and Plumbing be your first and last point of contact for your water heating needs.

Your water heater should last between 8-20 years. That is a long window and therefore it is important to keep track of it. If you don’t know the date it was installed, check for the serial number.

After a certain amount of time, the inside of your tank will go through a process of electrolysis. This is what happens when corrosive particles are pulled into the anode rode. Over time, it will cease working and protecting your tank lining. When this happens, your tank days are numbered. As it approaches the end of its life, your tank will begin to leak more often.

Leaks are not the only problem you may develop. There are many different types of water heaters, and each will display problems and malfunctions differently. One issue you should check for is the contents of your tank. If it is filled with hot water, that is a very bad sign. Also, keep your ear attuned for strange noises emanating from your heater. Some level of noise is normal. However, if you are hearing clunking, banging, and other weird noises, that is also likely another sign that your water heater needs to be replaced.

The final sign is visual. If the water coming out is rusty-looking or tinted, this may be an indication that there is a problem with your water heater. In most cases, the heater just needs to be flushed out. However, this could also be an indication of a more serious problem.

If your water heater needs attention, call a professional before your heater stops working or a serious leak occurs. In these cases, your best bet is to contact J.
